This suggestion is simply meant to be a variation to the official release order, one which the player can consider. Additionally, the city of Crossbell features much more prominently in CS III and IV thus, it makes thematic sense to play the Crossbell games right prior to being throne back into that setting. Not much at all is spoiled by switching the order. There is a one year gap between the events of CS II and III thus, it thematically feels good to break up that time by fitting in the Crossbell games. There is one thing in particular that you need to get on your first game in order to keep your 100 achievement run to only two games - the 'Heart of a Lion' achievement. Trails of Cold Steel requires two playthroughs in order to get all of the achievements. The main benefit is breaking up the very long Cold Steel arc. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. And at that point, check out Zero and Azure. ehh, this will be the long long wait Others' recommendations are good: I also recommend switching Zero and Azure's order with CS I and II. View a new set of screenshots at the gallery. I really do not want to wait a year before this game release, and then another year for Azure, only to go through the already released Cold Steals. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV The End of Saga is due out for PlayStation 4 on September 27 in Japan. Even the ending of Cold Steel 2 hits a different way after having played Azure. Not just Divertissement (which is a vastly different experience), but the order of some events happening and how characters talk about things going on. ![]() Then I went back and played the end of Cold Steel 2 again - starting from late in chapter 2.īecause of that, I think it is more impactful to have played Zero and Azure before Cold Steel 2. That is exactly how I played the first time. So if you don't want spoils, stopping there is alright, but personally it's so close to the end of Cold Steel 2 you may as well just finish it. There is a Divertisement Chapter near the end of Cold Steel 2 that has you play as characters from Zero/Azure though. So if you don't want to just twittle your thumbs for a year waiting for Zero to release. As Zero and Azure take place roughly the same time as Cold Steel 1 & 2. Late in Cold Steel 2, things start to happen where it is really beneficial to have played the earlier games. There are events that happen in Cold Steel that have their full background presented in Zero and Azure, but most aren't critical to the plot. That said, though, it isn't particularly bad to play Cold Steel first just to see if you like the general aspects of the game, especially since that game is newer than these. ![]() The series has a lot of moments that feel more rewarding when you've played the earlier games. All the games have one overarching plot and involve people living on the same continent over the course of several years. They have a much bigger emotional impact playing the games that way.
